Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of sushi rice
  • 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • Nori seaweed sheets
  • Fillings of your choice (e.g. cooked shrimp, avocado, cucumber, carrots, crab meat, etc.)
  • Wasabi, soy sauce, and pickled ginger for serving (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the sushi rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Drain the rice and place it in a saucepan with 2 1/2 cups of water.
  2. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the water is absorbed.
  3. Remove the pan from heat and let the rice sit, covered, for 10 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt.
  5. Place the cooked rice in a large bowl and pour the vinegar mixture over the rice. Stir gently to combine.
  6. Place a nori sheet on a flat surface, shiny side down. Spread a thin layer of the rice mixture over the nori sheet, leaving about 1 inch of the nori exposed at the top.
  7. Arrange your chosen fillings in a line across the center of the rice.
  8. Lift the bottom of the nori sheet and fold it over the fillings, pressing gently to seal.
  9. Roll the sushi tightly, using your fingers to keep the fillings in place.
  10. Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make more sushi rolls.
  11. Slice the sushi rolls into bite-sized pieces using a sharp knife.
  12. Serve with wasabi, soy sauce, and pickled ginger, if desired.

This recipe makes about 6-8 sushi rolls, depending on the size of the nori sheets and the amount of fillings used. Experiment with different fillings and seasonings to find your favorite combination. Enjoy your homemade sushi rolls!
