    • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 2 teaspoons baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup buttermilk
    • 1 cup brewed coffee, cooled
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the filling:

    • 2 cups heavy cream
    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 can (21 oz) of cherry pie filling
  • For the frosting:

    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, coffee, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  6. Bake the cakes for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. To make the filling, beat together the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  9. To assemble the cake, place one cake layer on a serving platter and spread 1/3 of the cherry pie filling on top.
  10. Spoon 1/2 of the whipped cream over the cherries, then place the second cake layer on top. Repeat the layering process with the remaining cherries and whipped cream.
  11. To make the frosting, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips and butter, stirring until smooth.
  12. Let the frosting cool to room temperature, then spread it over the top and sides of the cake.
  13. Serve the cake chilled, garnished with fresh cherries and chocolate shavings if desired.

This classic Black Forest cake is a delicious and impressive dessert that is perfect for special occasions. Enjoy!
